This work began as a research project exploring how to visualize scent, an invisible sense. Scent disappears quickly and spreads into the air without form. Body scent can communicate a person’s condition or emotions to others, and unlike visual memory, scent often remains more deeply and directly in our minds, evoking specific memories through
particular perfumes.
In this work, perfume was used as a medium to visually represent the characteristics of scent. Inside transparent packs, I placed objects that best represent different people together with scent strips of their favorite perfumes. Although the transparent packs do not directly show the scent itself, the objects and traces inside allow viewers to imagine and infer what kind of scent might exist within them.
